Butler Creek Farm Environment & Cattle Management Practices

Our cattle are raised on a small coastal Oregon Century Farm, owned and managed by our family for about 140 years. The cows have a bio-diverse diet, grazing our natural grass pastures year round. In winter their diets are supplemented with clover and grass hay that is grown and harvested on site. They are not fed any grains, as these have been shown to have negative effects on cattle when consumed in large quantities. Grass-fed beef is higher in Omega-3 fatty acids and conjugated linoleic acid (CLA), another good fat. It also has more vitamin E, vitamin A and Beta-carotene than commercial beef. Angus is our predominant breed, chosen for high meat quality.

Grass-fed beef is lean and flavorful. It is well suited for pot roasts, stews and hamburger. Active, grass-fed cattle produce leaner steaks than their commercially raised counterparts. More information on the health benefits of grass-fed beef is available at websites such as www.eatwild.com
